As we approach the release date reveal, I'd like to start sharing a little more stuff from the book!
Today, it's about regret. Magica Riot, being a novel about transness vis a vis magical girls, shockingly has some stuff to say about waiting and regret.
Before I could say anything, Sara broke the silence.
"I'm going to hang out here for a while," she said. She glanced at my phone and smiled. "You have plans?"
"Looks like it. Hazel wants me to come over. Do you think it's okay, with everything that's going on? I don't want to—"
"You should go, Claire," she said, looking back out across the river. "You've fought enough today. Don't fight regret, too."
It's never too late to be yourself, to find your identity. It's a message that we've all heard, but which I feel resonates with the trans community especially strongly. In this book, Claire gets the chance to come out and dive headfirst into understanding herself, and she takes it. There are so many challenges in store, and so many ways she could get hurt, but none of it is as dangerous as never knowing and never becoming.
This is a trans story, but I hope people of all stripes will be able to relate.
